  1. It is interesting to see how much procurement officers are now in need both in the public and private sector in Nigeria. The career path for young professionals in this field looks bright. As the drive for improving competitive edge in the private sector and the overall need for improved value for money, transparency and accountability in the public sector drive this sector. It is sad that no Nigerian University appears to be seeing and harnessing the opportunities this trend presents. With a new procurement cadre in the federal public service and 24 of 36 states with procurement laws that will lead to new procurement cadres in the various state services. The opportunity is so obvious, why do you think the academic institutions are not seing this or acting to harness it?

  2. I think that already most academic institutions are already over- streched, and grapple with the challenge of funding and dilapidated infrastructure.Besides, the belief in some quarters is that there is a bit of procurement in specialised subjects such as Law,Engineering etc,Hence articulating the modules that will make up Procurement Studies as a full course of study at undergraduate and post-graduate levels is still a challenge.Procurement is also seen as an elitist and specialised area of study upon acquiring a background degree in a related discipline ,then one may proceed to. acquire a specialised certificate from the Federal University of Technology Owerri Training Centre,Certification from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Management ,and other Training Centres. The truth is that procurement has gone beyond such perceptions, and academic institutions have to wake up to the reality that procurement studies is a well rounded course, which is at the heart of the Nation’s Public Financial Management Reforms. These institutions may do well by even commencing the award of M.Sc. in Procurement Studies before delving into the undergraduate level,as the fact is that a lot of Nigerians are travelling abroad daily for studies advanced studies in Procurement.
